Book Review Podcasts

The Birmingham Public Library has posted a stocking full of podcasts. They feature local librarians’ reviews and recommendations for gift-worthy reads this season. Looks like they’re using PodBean and it loads verrrry fast! So it’s no hassle to cruise them all rather quickly. Very cool!

I’m going to have to check out Yvonne Crumpler’s take on Wayne Flynt’s book to see if we agree. And then check back later to see what else she recommends.

Local Author Expo 2007

Today was the first day of the 2-day event and I was late getting there. I walked in BPL-Central just after 2 p.m. and the event closed up at 3 p.m. So I know I missed some authors and other folks.

The Secret is out

Workplay is the venue for an event slated as “FOUND Magazine vs. Postsecret“. All of the sites and printed books/magazines for FOUND and Postsecret are fantastically voyeuristic and comforting at times.

Tickets are $15 a pop (or $40 for the VIP treatment, which includes some kind of ‘smaller intimate setting’) proceeds benefit HopeLine.

Library’s site gets face lift

The JCLC has a new look to their site and user interface. The update looks great! What is interesting though is they have added “social networking” type functions. So people can now rate books they like, etc. According to the blog post, users will eventually be able to write reviews and make suggestions and such.

The coolness that is our local library system seems to be part of a trend, too.
