Books, Beans and Candles MS is in an old Birmingham house going up 20th on your way to Vulcan. It’s on the righthand side, just after you pass the “Y-split”. Owners Mitchell and Darby Hagood have been at this location since August 2008, though they’ve been in business for two and a half years. Ever since seeing the sign out front (it starts with the word books!) I’d been trying to find time to stop in and see what it’s all about and finally was able to make it in and get some photos.
Mitchell Hagood sums up the shop with one word… “metaphysical”. (photos after the jump)
The first step in this year’s downtown walking tour will be on October 24th at 5:45pm in the atrium of the downtown Birmingham Public Library. The 90-minute nighttime walking tour is labeled Birmingham Noir: Murders, Mysteries and Fallen Women. How cool is that?
The tour of notorious sites around downtown is free, but space is limited and reservations are required. These events fill quick!
There is also another walking tour set for 5:45pm on October 29th. To grab your spot contact Jim Baggett at 226-3631 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Workplay is the venue for an event slated as “FOUND Magazine vs. Postsecret“. All of the sites and printed books/magazines for FOUND and Postsecret are fantastically voyeuristic and comforting at times.
Tickets are $15 a pop (or $40 for the VIP treatment, which includes some kind of ‘smaller intimate setting’) proceeds benefit HopeLine.
