Since 2006, I have been blogging about three things: books, publishing and Birmingham. As fast as things change these days, I think it’s a great time to be keeping a book blog, tracking new books, and reading about the quickly evolving publishing industry. I am fortunate enough to work in book publishing (nature & travel) and love the constant weaving of all the newness into all the oldness.
I am always on the lookout for a new great read and love to stop by any of the of the great bookstores we have around Birmingham. I am on LibraryThing and I think you should be too (say ‘hi’, if you are!). I have left Twitter and currently reside on Mastodon @tsutrav@indieweb.social but that may change as I’m still trying to figure out if this is the instance for me (for what it’s worth, I really appreciate the conversation there as well as the whole spirit of indieweb.social).
Leave a comment and let me know where you blog. I’d like to check it out. Especially if your blog has a bookish heart or you refer to it as your “book blog”. I think we might just get along.

Basically, I’m a fan. A fan of books and bookstores. A fan of fiction and non-fiction. A fan of authors and publishers. And since Birmingham, Alabama is my backyard, I’ll post and keep up with as much as I can in and around town. Hopefully we’ll bump into each other.

Thank you for stopping by.

November 2025 I love comics! This is a renewal of the IndieWeb Book Club. I invite you to join me in reading 1993’s “Understanding Comics”…
It’s funny, I’ve been aware of these little free libraries for a long time, and I’ve featured them on my own blog several times. I love the concept and truly appreciate that there are people out there who value books and reading enough to make the effort to keep them going. BUT I’ve never seen one in the real world. One of these days it’s bound to happen, but so far, no. I’m starting to feel like Captain Ahab on his quest for the white whale.
