Typecon 2008

If I could be anywhere this week it would be up in Buffalo, New York, at this year’s Typecon. It kicked off yesterday and runs through the 20th. I really need to plan my summer vacations better… maybe next year. I mean surely some of the knowledge and skills of these guys would rub off, right? Well, until then I’ll just have to follow their Twitter feed to get my Typecon fix.

Though not a very large event, our young and humble Alabama Book Festival is always an event we travel too. It’s always fun to snap pics of authors you’ve heard of, but never seen. I have yet to meet an author who’s face matched the one I had given them in mind. After scrolling through Kimbooktu’s photos of a Ducth book fetival, I clicked around for a few others…

Librarians get in GABBS for free

GABBS logoAnyone heard of this? Or going? It’s on August 1-2 and sounds really cool and seems like book bargains could be found, especially since they are still in start-up mode. I think it’s only the second year for the Great American Bargain Book Show, which is aimed at libraries and book sellers. It’s also good to see these types of expos down in our corner of the country.

It popped up on my radar because I saw where they are letting librarians in for free. I’m not a librarian. I just like to keep up with all the cool kids! The rest of us have to pay the $60 fee ($50 if you pre-register).
