Skipping out on booksellers August 28th, 2006
Publishers Weekly is reporting a new Penguin’s new campaign to directly sell its titles to customers. According to the article you can buy all their titles at 25% off from their website until Labor Day. But the Penguin site doesn’t reflect this sale yet, that I can find.
I wonder how booksellers feel about being under cut by their supplier?

wow! this is both exciting and yet disturbing altogether. being a bookstore manager, i suppose we’d see a steady drop in sales, especially since a lot of the classics required for school reading are published by penguin. although what percentage of parents would opt to buy online and wait for delivery, when it’s so much more convenient to visit your friendly, neighborhood bookstore? besides, we all know students wait until the day before to get their books anyway. should prove interesting.
