At the heart of it all, I’m a fan. A fan of books and bookstores. A fan of fiction and non-fiction. A fan of authors and publishers. And most of all I’m a fan of great conversations sparked by books. All that to say - I really need more bookshelves.
Is this just marketing? He kind of seems sincere. Yann Martel, author of Life of Pi, is taking a stand for the arts. And it’s a stand that will expand Canada’s Prime Minister’s book case.
This little new tidbit has just moved Life of Pi to the top of my TBR pile. I know, I know… I’m probably the only person on the planet who hasn’t read this yet.
The weather was perfect for this past weekend’s Magic City Art Connection festival. We picked up a print by Illinois artist Keith Grace. All of his artwork is saturated with letterforms and font sets, not too mention BRIGHT colors. Our find is perfect for our son’s room:
The Magic City Art Connection (formerly Art in the Park) is this weekend. The three day free event will have the streets around Lynn Park blocked off thousands of Birminghamsters crowd into hundreds of white tents to see what is there.
I noticed that there are fewer print artists showing this year. I was somewhat surprised by that. There seems to be a renewed interest in printed art and posters these days. So I expecting more. Oh well. Maybe we’ll find a cool painting or something.
